One teenage model has recently received a personal injury compensation award of more than £20,000 for the injuries she sustained to one of her feet at a swimming pool on her fourteenth birthday, legal experts recently reported.
Shonagh Molloy, a native of Co Dublin, in Ireland, had been in attendance in Donaghmede’s Trinity Sports and Leisure Club when a broken pool tile below the water line lacerated the bottom of her foot as she kicked off from the wall while making a turn. The cut on her heel was so deep that it reached to her tendons and necessitated her being brought to hospital in order to apply sutures to the wound under a local anaesthetic.
According to testimony given in the court hearing related to the injuries, the jagged, broken tile had been left in the pool’s side wall due to maintenance work that had just recently been undertaken at the leisure club. Any disfigurement that occurred as a result of the now-fifteen year old girl’s injuries would be ‘mild’ according to medical experts, but doctors did confirm that she would be left with permanent scarring.
Young Miss Molloy was given a compensatoin award of €25,000 (£20,344) for the pain and suffering she had to endure because of the broken tile. Luckily her catwalk model career will not be threatened by her injury, as she will retain the ability to walk in a normal manner.
Representatives from the sports and leisure club could not be reached for comment in the wake of the settlement award.
